According to the DVLA, Fiesta thefts rose by 53% last year and the car remains the most stolen in Britain.   5979 Fiestas stolen last year.   I can guarantee that mine wont be stolen.

It’s almost as if the most popular car would have the most theft’s because there is more of them than any other car…..

Im guessing this was on Daily Mail or similar? A much more useful statistic would be the most stolen car as a percentage of the number on the roads. That tells you how much of a target it is. 

What i want to know is specifically if its the MK7 or MK8 (MY2017) that being stolen, because its meant to have better theft proof features..

 

Nissan Cube is the least stolen car in the world.  - Actually I don't know that to be true, but since they hardly sold any the chances of one being stolen is very low.

The Fiesta is the most popular car in the UK with over 1.5Million registered. Who'd have thought it would be the subject of the highest number of thefts!

You do know that your car can be picked up by a forklift, than driven away on the back of a flatbed?? Still, a nice challenge for some overzealous thief! LOL I'm sure your insurance company will be delighted at your bravado...

I know you've taken a lot of precautions, but I still wouldn't tempt fate like that.  

I wonder if thefts will increase even more when production ends?

Speaking as the EX-owner of a 2013 Transit Connect that was only 2 years old at the time when it vanished I would never say something can not be stolen. My van had an alarm system, an immobiliser and a "Tracker" you would think it would be as safe as the Bank of England (perhaps not a good analogy 🤔).

It still got stolen, the tracker even notified me of the theft in less than 5 minutes. I gave chase in the car following the movements of the tracker and came very close to finding it on a housing estate. I was both puzzled and surprised when I rounded the corner expecting to see the van and it wasn't there. After a search of the area the tracker was found in a nearby bush and the van has never been seen again !! 😠

Mine certainly won't be driven away as it has a Ghost II immobiliser fitted.   It's always left with its wheels on full lock.

Bob, the tradition is that once you're in a hole, stop digging! You are thinking like a conscientious car owner, not a scumbag thief. In a previous job, I use to organise police information days for the public (when that kind of thing was popular!)

They had a demo vehicle with one of those fancy krookloks, which people put much faith in. They demonstrated how in less than 30 seconds, with a handheld rechargeable hacksaw, the thief would just cut through the steering wheel, remove lock, and drive off. Drivers don't think of the destruction that thieves go to, they just think of how great their non destructive 'key' is when they unlock their car!

As Bob is a retired police officer from what I recall, I'm sure he has knowledge of the scumbags tricks of the trade.

Perhaps they get stolen all the time but the owners are too embarrassed to report it 🤣

It would be interesting to know how many of the stolen Fiestas are post 2019 when sleepy keys came in to help stop relay theft, but I can't find such a statistic. Also blocking/moving the OBD port can help stop them starting the car once they are inside.

That reminds me of a (probably daft) question I keep meaning to ask about keyless entry (pre-sleepy key variety). I understand you can disable the keyless entry in the settings menu so you have to unlock/lock with the fob buttons.

Would that reduce the possibility of relay theft or make no difference?

Yes.  The thief would have to intercept the signal while you're pressing the button in that case.  It does happen (or did, before keyless entry became common!) but obviously cuts the chances by about 99%!

Nothing you do will ever stop a determined thief. It’s only about increasing the time needed to steal it and making it less attractive than another less secure vehicle.

Thought that seemed logical. Ironically the last couple of cars I had with keyless entry didn't seem to have a way to disable it in settings.

Noticed more recently in the online manuals that the facility to disable is there on current models, which mostly have keyless.

Yes, I suppose the story does depend on the lion being sufficiently distant to give Guy No 1 time to change his shoes, and Guy 2 hanging about while he does it, or continuing slowly enough that Guy 1  can catch and overtake him after the shoe change.............. you can overthink these things!😃

Hay guys just spent the day ordering door lock parts for my missus fiesta titanium x. Im originally from ireland and years ago car theft was rife. I knew a guy and thats what he did for a living...scumbag i know but he gave me one bit of advice. A good old fashion chain and padlock under the seat and then hooped around the steering wheel. He said he could get into any car but as soon as he would see one with a big dirty padlock it was bets off they would look in and just not bother
