Found the sensor easily....just behind the wheel..tried a bit of wd40 in the plug and in the arm...cleared the error but it's still there...some pics ..

Hi. I know this is a bit of a shot in the dark, but how did this pan out in the end?
I’ve got a Headlight Malfunction on my 2014 SMax: long story, but new ballast and bulbs isn’t curing the issue. However, my headlights aren’t doing the sweep when we turn the headlights on. I don’t have access to a code reader, so I’m just curious. The colour of the bulbs is different when on: the passenger side is more white with zero blue tint.

We had an advisory last MOT, the bush in the passenger rear trailing arm badly deteriorated. So, we had the part replaced-but, 2 days later, this happened. I’m wondering if the 2 are connected.

Hi there - funny - i was thinking the other day that i never replied back.....so in the end it turned out to be a dead wire within the loom. The ford main dealer had it for a week and traced it back to that....he ran a separate cable from the level sensor at the back of the car to the front....they did say to me - we can probably find the wire now we know what the problem is, but, youll have to pay the labour on stripping the interior out of the car to get to the main loom then, find the section that had gone dead and replace...i took the cheaper option but, they did say then ran the cable under the car directly but hid it in such a way that the elements wouldnt get to it....when the weather gets warmer ill strip the car apart, find the wire in the loom and replace it myself...i know the colour of the failed wire and, i know the start and the end point...so, alot of time to find and replace but ulimately doable...sorry id not replied back sooner.!

We had the rear bushes replaced a few years back but it had nothing to do with the level sensor....that came about 2 years later...

Thanks for getting back to me.
So, we’ve had a mare with our S-Max. The headlamp leveller was the issue in the end-new part fitted and the issue is cured.
However, it only got fixed because it was at the main dealers for another issue, so made sense to get them to diagnose that and replace whilst it was there. We had the BCM fail, so the car was unusable, and only the main dealer could repair it. So, ours is resolved, but only off the back of a four figure repair…

Hope you manage to resolve yours-thankfully these cars don’t seem to be too difficult to get apart, although tracing wiring to find a break/fault is no walk in the park (I had to do it once on one of my old cars back in my youth to resolve an amplifier problem-complete pig of a job!).
