Battery change, step by step guide needed.

Featured Replies

It sounds like hassle but isn't really.  Batteries should come well charged, but topping them up to 100% is always good practice.  (Fairly sure the dealership won't!)  BMS reset only takes a few seconds, just seems hassle when you see it written down.

This mornings battery update (my SOC is still set at 95%).

Strange that you are still on Fast Regeneration Allowed and 13 volts at the BCM.

The 13 Volts is something that I only see for a few seconds after starting while it climbs up, but mine always starts in Conventional Charging before changing. It must be something to do with changing the SOC.

What app is this?

I believe I can see this information via ForScan but would be handy via phone, but I suspect Carista etc won't be able to read this data.

That is the FORScan paid for phone app., details here  https://forscan.org/download.html

What PID's you can see varies from car to car and sometimes modal year as well, so you may not see everything available on the Mk4 on your car.

FORScan is very fussy about what Adaptor is used though, but I believe that some Wired ones will work with the phone app via an OTG Cable if the phone supports OTG.

Good to know - thanks. I'm assuming to be able to communicate with the right modules it'll have to be a Bluetooth/WiFi adaptor with an in built auto HS/MS switch.

Not sure how iOS likes OTG, I have a Lightning to SD adapter for grabbing dashcam and GoPro videos without having to fire up the PC, might have to try the Lightning->USB adapter and my vLinker FS cable and see if that works.

You need the vLinker FD dongle for Android phones to use FORScan Lite, OR you need vLinker FD+ for iPhones.

I understand that the FD+ will also work with an android phone but data transfer is not as fast as the standard FD.

Be sure to order only the Bluetooth version and not the Wifi.

If you have the Windows version of FORScan already then the PID's that you can see in the Phone version are exactly the same as the Windows version ones. If the ones you want are there then they will be in the BCM and there may be some in the PCM also.

As @unofix said, forget about any looky looky Adaptors on auction sites. You may get lucky and they will work or work to a degree, or maybe not. There is a reason why FORScan only recommend the few named Wireless Adaptors.

The new battery was an identical size to the original, so no problems fitting it 👍

I have a little gizmo fitted that automatically turns S/S off 5 seconds after the ignition is turned on, so I don't have to worry about that 🤣

You'll note that despite the SOC being 85% the battery is still being charged at a rate of 2 Amps. It will be interesting to see if continues up to the 95% that I have set.

hey unofix. care to share what lil gizmo is that?

i hate the S/S function!

Hi, if you are in Europe then you can buy it from the manufacture direct.
