Focus won’t start

Featured Replies

Hi there I’m hoping someone can help I have a 2013 1.6tdci focus and it has developed a fault of “immobiliser malfunction service now” and it will not start. after scanning it has come up with u0121 lost communication with abs control module. I have checked fuses all ok but cannot find any information about the fault anywhere. Any help would be great. Thanks I’m advance.

Hi Rob, sounds like your instrument cluster is suffering from the problem of dry solder joints. To be honest a 2013 vehicle is a little new to be affected by this common problem (normally 2012 and before) it is still just possible.

The instrument cluster can be repaired/refurbished for around £90 or less and generally only takes 3 days. There are many companies on eBay and other sites offering the service. There is even a forum member here who help you out if needed. @rd457

Failing that issue (but that is the most likely) the other problem is water ingress in the Body Control Module (BCM) which is part of the passenger compartment fusebox.

Instrument cluster on the mk 3 isn't part of the imobiliser set up. That's bcm, abs and pcm.

Most likely bcm issue.
