Hooded
2 hours ago, tomo2001 said: Shouldn't be applicable in this case as the Focus is too new, but I had a non fault accident in December last year. What surprised me in all the literature from the insurance companies (Hastings being the repairer) they now indicate they can potentially use 2nd hand parts in the repair process to expedite the repair and keep costs down. I would imagine the money they can raise from the salvage would be quite high on that though, so the insurance would also factor that in (when deciding what’s best for them) when making a decision. My smashed up F30 330d salvage went for 5k on an online copart auction after it had been written off as a Cat S. I’m not sure what kind of percentage Copart take etc but in the end it wouldn’t have cost the insurance anywhere near the 15k they paid out to me. Hopefully the OP’s car won’t be written off, cus he’s said he would prefer it to be repaired.
Stoney871
Update- Other drivers insurance accepted full liability, seeing as my car was parked & unmanned they couldn't do anything but. Car was collected thursday afternoon so now I have to wait for the assessment to be done to see what the next steps are likely to be. Looking at the wheel geometry while on the recovery vehicle it appears that the lower wishbone was bent so hopefully no strut damage. Now we wait and see.

I was reading an article about that recently. It suggested that insurers stipulate that the used part be no older than the vehicle being repaired, in line with the principle of insurance being to put you back in the position than you were in before the accident. It seemed to be more about speeding up repairs in view of parts shortages, rather than cost cutting as such, though it should do that by reducing use of replacement hire cars, etc.

Stoney871
So time for an update... Car still in the garage as the parts process has been horrendous. They are still waiting for a bumper without which they can't do the paint. They only got the suspension parts last week. Highly unlikely it will be ready for FF so if I still come I'll be a walk in 😖. By my calculations the provided hire car has cost the culprits insurance company about 15k so far, hate to think what the total bill will be. As she's on motability insurance I'm not sure she will even pay any excess, she's probably already had a new car and forgotten all about the whole thing. Unfair really, I've been using the hire car longer than and put on more miles than my own one.
iantt
Parts supply is a nightmare, longest we waited was 8 months for a sync screen on a ranger. But body parts do have a long wait also.

There is excess to pay on Motability insurance. It's 'only' £100 for a driver over 25 though. (I say only as that's obviously a lot more to some on MB than others). They may refuse to insure that person again depending on the nature of the accident. And if they require a certain type of vehicle or specific adaptions, they have to wait just as long as anyone else for a repair or replacement, if not longer. I get that you're annoyed with the loss of your own car currently, but having seen the other side of this, it's not a fair assumption so suggest that people on MB are unaffected by an RTC. It might be worth noting that MB insurance is changing provider soon, from the 1st of September it changes from RSA to Direct Line. Hopefully that won't affect your claim at all, but it is something to be aware of just in case it does.
Stoney871
The insurance liability will remain with the original company. It's just frustrating how long it's taking for parts to come through.
alexp999
I understand complex components and modules having delays but I’m surprised body panels do. Surely they are just making them at the factory in Germany and can run off a few spares? I was going to say it’s good that it’s not been written off. But starting to wonder if Ford could deliver a whole car quicker than the parts you need at this rate!
Hooded
Car insurance has increased by around 40% on average in the last 12 months apparently, so be prepared for an enormous increase at renewal with a non fault claim added as well. I’m in the same boat sadly with a non fault claim this year too! 💩

Stoney871
!! UPDATE !! Car is done and being dropped to my local Enterprise this evening. I'm collecting tomorrow morning subject to me running a close eye over everything. The timing is very fortuitous as it means I can indeed get to Ford Fair this weekend with a car I can put on the club stand instead of walking in. See ya there Guys. (Don't be afraid to come up and chat with me, I do not bite 😉).

Great news mate, I'm really pleased (as I'm sure all the regulars on here will also be). I'm sure you'd have been gutted if that beauty had been written off!

Shopped around but still couldn't get close to last year's, in fact probably paid 35% more.

Stuffs got so expensive to repair the insurers have raised everyone’s premiums. I’m not looking forward to my renewal, expecting a good 25% more than last year.
Stoney871
My renewal is a fair time off yet so hopefully the market has stabilised by then.

From what I’m hearing lately you’re doing well if you get away with just a 25% increase on last year.
