Android Auto While Updating Maps?

Featured Replies

It looks like Ford have finally fix the error with their maps, so tomorrow I'll be going for a 2 hour drive, but my question is, can I use my phone via a USB cable and use Android Auto/Waze to navigate to somewhere while the maps are bringing updated ?

In theory probably yes.

In reality when the update fails (and we all know it will) you will be left wondering was it because of using your phone and android auto.

Yeah, that's what I thought, I did that in one of my old cars when map updates came on a DVD , I had left a USB drive in and I got a failed install (after almost a 3 hour wait)

I may wait for the install to start and then plug my phone in

I've also just updated my SYNC to the latest version and have the latest version of maps to install (is it F11) Mine hasn't been updated since the car was made, still on F8 so I'm not sure how long that's going to take. If it's going to work then I don't mind but I don't fancy wasting 2 hours of my life (and 2 hours worth of petrol) to get a error message at the end of it.

Can the update not be installed in stages? If you shut the car off, will it not just continue from where it left off when you restart? I'm guessing not but thought it was worth asking...

Yes is the answer, it's how I've done my updates. It doesn't quite continue from where it left off, but instead continues from the last complete file that it had downloaded. You can expect that it might take a few days doing it that way, just remember not to remove the USB pen until you are 110% sure it has finished 👍

I'll give it a go over the weekend, thanks for that. When we bought the car the previous owner had done nothing to it. SYNC and maps were the stock version that came with the car. Not even sure if he needed the car because its 2 years old and only done 5,000 miles

Ive just downloaded the latest Map update from Official Ford website.

Map_8580509305_Update

I see that this file only contains the Voice navigation file update.

Has anyone installed this one yet, and I presume then get another update for the actual map files afterwards?

I’ve got it on a stick but haven’t installed it yet, so no idea if anything is offered next. The internal version is somewhere between the F11 and F12 maps anyway and Ford were installing these voice files with F11 maps at the factory.

I'm having to re-download the files again. Todays trip was aborted due to an error message as I plugged the USB stick in at the beginning of our journey.

mmmmm........

how very unlike a Ford Sync update to fail 🤣

I just tried the download, and get the Mem_Err01 notice as soon as I put the USB stick in!  (first time ive ever got this message with an update).

I still have 11Gb of free space on my APIM, so not sure why I should be getting this message?

I have had exactly the same problem today, I downloaded the file to a formatted EX FAT stick, extracted filed and as soon as I plugged it in the car I was greeted with  an error. Will Ford ever get this right!

I thought it was established that the map update showing was not to be downloaded?

Established where? Us owners have seen it on the legitimate Ford website & downloaded the file.

There has been a new update on the Ford Server, which is approx. 7gb in size, hence why we have been downloading it to install.

However, again I wouldnt bother, as it doesnt appear to work correctly.

These forums, but it seems that this is another update (that doesn't work?) But I couldn't see that as you can't download sync updates to your phone no more.

Well, I contacted Ford Customer Relations centre and surprise, surprise got the stock reply of;

"Your local Ford Dealer would be best equipped to assist you with this matter. You can find the contact details for your local branch, using our
Dealer locator function"

They dont even mention a Sync / Map Update to you on a standard service, so cant see them sorting this issue out !!

Does anyone know of the direct contact details for the Ford Sync team?  As surely they would be grateful of 'bug' reports for their system.

Ford Sync team?

"Team" You're very optimistic !!

Last official report I heard regarding Sync was last year when CRC admitted in an e-mail to a complaining customer that "our Sync support engineer has left and we do not have anyone able to answer technical issues". Which makes you wonder just how many (or is it how few?) people are in the Sync team. Can you have a 'team' of only one ?
