Ford Fiesta Ecoboost cam belt issue

Featured Replies

Hi,

I caught something on TV a couple of weeks ago (a Watchdog type prog) where they said there are a number of cars experiencing cam belt failure way before the recommended time. It's worried me, does anyone know which years are affected?  They only said Fiesta Ecoboost.  Thanks.

All 1.0 EcoBoost up to around 2020 are affected.

There was a newer engine with chain instead of a belt fitted to Focus's from Mk4 (2018) onwards, but the other models kept the old engine for a few more years.

If you own a Mk8 Fiesta, have a look at the engine.  If there's a large shiny silver heatshield at the front, that's the old engine.

As Tom says - a 2018 will be a belt and will look like this (shot of the engine in my previous 2018 Fiesta ecoboost):

Incidentally we had a thread on here about the Watchdog programme:

It wasn't the most accurate or best presented piece as you can see from the comments.
