99k on a 1.0 ecoboost

Featured Replies

more a curiosity that anything else, i have a 14 plate 1.0 ecoboost with 99k on the clock. original engine and turbo, only an oil pump replaced due to worn cam belt

is this normal or am i just lucky?

Bodger

I'd say it's normal.

It's not like all 1.0 ecoboosts are destined to die under 100k, it's just that they need to be looked after and a higher than acceptable percentage are failing prematurely.

Making some numbers up here just to reiterate the point:

Even if 90% of 1.0 ecoboosts made it over 100k, then that is the norm. But the other 10% is still too high a failure rate.

Only 1k to go before spontaneous combustion!  Get rid of it quick!

He says he has had the cam belt and oil belt  changed so I would think this is entirely normal. It may be now good for another 100K as TomsFocus has a neighour who has a 200K Ecobost!

Some clarification needed here - we are assuming the cambelt was replaced at the same time - or was it really just the oil pump?

Indeed. I assumed, perhaps wrongly, that the oil pump was replaced opportunistically while having the cam belt changed - which at that mileage it should have been!

Maybe have 200k but Tom did point out we don't know if it was original engine or not

Correct.  Still hoping to find out at some point.

I did see one with 150k some years ago at work and same engine/belts. No mention of getting belts changed back then as they were lifetime belts then.

the cam belt frayed and blocked the oil pump at around about 75k, back in the days of a lifetime belt running in oil

So the full story is the engine was almost scrap at 75K miles when it suffered oil pressure failure caused by the wet cambelt disintegrating.

To answer your question(s)

'is this normal' very normal for a 1.0 Ecoboost to fail at 75K

'or am I just lucky' yes your lucky that the oil pressure failure didn't cause catastrophic damage.

The fact that after such an event it's now made it to 99K is nothing short of a miracle, but I think now we know more of the story, Tom's prediction of "spontaneous combustion! " is quite likely. 🤔

I thought this oil pump story sounded familiar.........

Just interested to know what is the highest mileage one of these has achieved without changing the Wet belt? Have any achieved 100,000miles +?
