Cruise control stopped working

Featured Replies

Hi all of a sudden, cruise control no longer works on my 2017 SMAX UK Model

I have ordered some contact cleaner just incase its just the buttons but also checking DTC in forscan I have the following

Code: U3003 - Battery Voltage

Additional Fault Symptom:

 - Circuit Voltage Below Threshold

Status:

 - Previously Set DTC - Not Present at Time of Request

 - Malfunction Indicator Lamp is Off for this DTC

Module: Cruise-Control Module

 Freeze Frame :

-GLOBTIM: 197429803 s - Global real time

No other DTC codes. Is indicating any other issue? My battery voltage was showing 14.5v instead of 14.7v surely thats  not affecting it?

Disconnect the battery negative for 10 minutes, see if it comes back

Also, test battery voltage for holding charge, whilst disconnected

There is a metal post on the chassis to the right of the battery compartment

You have to remove the airbox and slide the battery forward.

If the layout is similar to the galaxy then you will probably have to remove the airbox or at least the top of it as space is pretty tight

@DaveT70

Dave's suggestion is the correct procedure, and removing the negative lead first when disconnecting any car battery is good safe practice.

HOWEVER !!

There are cases like yours where it is very difficult or indeed impossible to reach and disconnect the negative terminal without first disconnecting the positive battery lead.

Since the reason for disconnecting the battery in your case is simply to see if it will clear the fault with the Cruise Control, then just disconnect the positive lead. There is no need to disconnect the negative in this instance. Just be extremely careful when using the spanner (or socket set) on the positive terminal that it does not make contact with the metal of the chassis or other metal parts.

Yeh had another look and it looks like an absolute pain to get out. Once airbox is removed there's another clamp holding the battery down.

I will give it a try on weekend when I have some time.

I did try some contact spray on the buttons to no avail.

No need to take anything apart if all your doing is disconnecting battery . Just unbolt the body earth point . 8mm headed bolt.

"NOTE: If it is only necessary to interrupt vehicle electrical power, disconnect the battery cable body terminal only.

Torque: 12 Nm (106 lb.in"

As @unofix says, disconnect the positive for 10 minutes if you have no easy way of disconnecting the negative

It's not recommended but it'll be OK
