Hi, fwiw, I checked our mk6, and can hear the relay operating when I turn the switch from sidelights to next setting (dipped) A garage won't help you'll need an auto electrician (unless they've got one) ...

Let us know how you get on or if you want another go at it  yourself 👍

Thanks for that, that is helpful.

I'll check the F40 fuse too.

Thank you.

Alright, if you're the copyright police, look away now.

Guys, you'll never believe but I've sorted it!  I looked at the diagram above and went through it again.  Had the indicator stalk out, the relevent fuses, checked the connectors... Then back to the main rotating switch for side/headlamps/fogs.  Took it out, checked it all than repeatedly turned it through the settings. Put it back, and the lights are working!  I think the contacts within are dirty or failing  After all that!

So, I will try and source a new switch.  However, does anyone know if this can be dismantled and cleaned up?

Thank you for your help, what a great forum.

Well done! You've saved a heap of money by not taking it to a garage. Dunno if it's worth buying switch cleaner and trying to squirt some inside in the hope it'll get on the contacts,  prob better to buy a new one (or new s/h) and use the old one to practice on. Keep it as a spare and you'll never need it!

Sadly this issue is back today.  I switched it on and off about 15 times yesterday after the fix, worked every time, but today, in use, Mrs has reported the dipped lights are not on. I've already ordered a 2nd hand replacement, so I'm hoping it's just a replacement rotary switch.

Let us know how you get on👍

Ok, so I bought a secondhand switch module from eBay.  Didn't go for the cheapest from a breakers, but bought one that looked cosmetically good from a low mileage car, still less than £25 posted 1st class recorded.  The actual part new is approx £150!  Anyway, dipped lights were not working... Changed the switch module, lights working! So hopefully it's now solved.

Ok, so far the replacement switch seems to be the solution. The internet shows that this has been a problem others have found with Fords of this era. So for future reference I thought I'd just add that my difficulty was that there was no visible fault, and the switch was working intermittently making it more difficult to diagnose. With the replacement fitted I took apart the old switch. Not difficult but be careful releasing the plastic clips with a small flat blade. Advice would be to leave the front most cosmetic cover in place otherwise you may dislodge the headlamp height adjuster like I did which is fiddly.  Carefully prising it open exposes the circuit board sitting on the rear connectors pushing through. I cleaned this one all up with contact cleaner and put it back and this works too. I never saw any dirt or corrosion, but it may be just a minute bad connection that made it fail. I was a bit too nervous to dismantle this prior to having the replacement as the car was still useable, I didn't want no lights at all if I screwed up!  Incidentally, this light switch fits several Fords, Fiesta, Fusion, Mondeo, but you do have to be careful.  The end letters seem to designate the model, DA in this case, front and rear fog lights.  Pictures may help someone in the future

You Sir, are an absolute legend.. Thank you very much for this info.

I am having the exact same problem with my 2015 Ford Figo in South Africa and you showed me where to look next 🙂

Like you, I have also swope bulbs and relays and checked the fuses; all good.

Much appreciated

Nutlang.

Nutlang, make sure you take a screenshot of the circuit diag that's on one of my previous replies in case it gets removed.

To add to my previous comments on this post..

Turns out the left hand indicator switch was at fault. I could engage the high beam but after that there was no way i could disengage it back to the low beam.  I replaced that and low beams are working 100%..

Simple to replace, unclip the switch locking pin, pull the switch up, unplug the 10pin connector, reconnect connector onto new switch; push it down in the slot until it clicks in position and voila.. 60sec job....

Hello guys.

You are absolute genius and save me a lot of time. Just turned it on and off few quick times and started working. Turned out the light switch probably had dust and now works fine. Just rotated it in few quick successes and now works perfectly fine.

First thing that got to my mind was realys, lights etc... but after reading this, saved me a lot of time and inconveniece along with $.

Thank you so much.

No problem Ivan.  The switch easily comes apart if you want to clean it inside.

I must say, this has been incredibly helpful, and I've managed to get the headlights working normally. Thank you very much for your guidance; it couldn't have happened without a person like you who has educated not just a household, but a community.

I struggled only slightly with accessing the switch. I removed all the screws holding the bottom cover, then pulled out the switch fitting by pinching the two flaps that held it in place.

It was fairly straightforward, albeit technical, to separate the fitting to access the chip and pins. I cleaned it with a toothbrush and reassembled it. It worked like magic. I really appreciate you sharing your experience. BRILLIANT.

Hi my daughter has the same issue with her mk6 2008 fiesta that you listed on here the end of last year. Head lights not working on low beam. Like you I have changed the bulbs changed the fuses and nothing is fixing the problem. What was the diagnosis on your fiesta in the end? How did you fix it? Many thanks

Hi, you might be best to read through the thread.  My solution was in my post of 4th Jan.  Basically I bought a replacement switch secondhand.  However, you will see that I also dismantled the original faulty switch and cleaned it up.  Easy to do.

Afternoon Guys,

Might be a long shot to see if anyone is still on this thread that can help. I’ve got the same issue as you guys however I’ve got a new switch from an old fiesta (same serial number on the switch) but still not low beam lights. I’ve tested the fuses and all seem okay. I also noticed normally it used to beep when opening the door when leaving the lights on and ever since if you have the car on with the light toggle on it will not alarm anymore to notify that the lights are on.

With trying everything on here, I’m at abit of a dead end. Any help would be appreciated

Quick note, I haven’t done anything to the stalk or changed the light bulbs but it would be off for both of them to go as I have only recently changed them.

It was my thread originally, but sorry, beyond my knowledge.

Look at the circuit diagram I posted Dec 23, try swapping the 2 relays R243 and R244 over.

R243 controls dip beam, R244 controls main beam.

On the 2008 Fiesta Mk6, I'm fairly sure that the low beam head lights were controlled directly from the GEM and not via a relay as they had been on earlier models.

The fact you have noticed other issues/problems confirms to me that the fault is with the GEM (later called BCM). I would recommend disconnecting the battery and then fully removing the GEM which is part of the passenger compartment fuse box. Inspect it for signs of water ingress and/or corrosion of the connectors and the circuit board tracks.
