Cooling fan issue

Featured Replies

Good morning still trying to work my way around this site 😂

i seem to be having an issue with the cooling fan on the mk7  econetic. I have bridged the connection from the battery to the fan and the fan runs. However when i turn the aircon on with the car running the fan dosent spin. And i dont want to risk the car getting hot and the high speed fan not working either. I have checked the fuses and relays under the bonnet and they seem fine. But no voltage at the fan plug or the resistor plug at the bottom of the fan. I had a couple other issues like the water in the spare wheel compartment which this group helped me massively. Im really struggling with this and have no idea where to try next. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If I have read the question and understand it properly..the aircon fan only come on when there is enough gas in the system to trigger the aircon clutch .

As to the water in the boot..I have just had the same fault and found the leak on mine

I lifted the boot end of the plastic roof rack runner on the drivers side gently lifted a length of 10 inches or so..Cleaned well and dried and you can see a weld seam that travels back to the boot rubber seal then used some heavy duty black mastic (not bathroom sealant) and used that to seal the joint an also stick the plastic strip back down ( used a heavy weight to press down over night

But all said that is where mine leaked..try taking the boot wall carpets out and pour water over that area starting from the bottom

Thank you for the advice. I have unplugged the coolant temp sensor and the engine fan kicks in. So this is an isolated issue to the air con. Inside cabin temp sensor says 240° which is definitely wrong.

This is a snip from forscan with ac light on but no fan/ clutch engaged

Does the Econetic have electronic climate?  If it's just manual temp control, there may not be a cabin sensor.

If it does have a cabin sensor, then that's probably a good place to start looking.  They get clogged up with dust and give false readings, although 214c seems excessive even for that.

Yes it has hvac electronic cc and that would tell me sensors way too high hence not working

I think the cabin temp sensor on those is in the overhead console where the front interior light is.

*Edit - Correction, the climate sensor is behind the climate panel on these.  It's the voice control mic that's in the roof console.

Need to remove the dash fascia and climate panel to reach the climate sensor.

Thank you, im gunna have to order one of them i think to try and eliminate that issue

Ignore the in-car temperature reading from the BCM - it is perfectly normal to read what you are getting. Check the internal temperature as reported by the HVAC module instead - it will be reporting what the fanned cabin sensor is picking up.

Back to your original issue, does your aircon actually work, in terms of cooling? Obviously make sure you aren't doing any testing at near-zero temperatures as it likely won't operate anyway (and thus may not trigger the fan either).

I tested it today with outside temp at 13 degrees. The finned sensor behind the hvac unit?

Yeah that's it. Get the HVAC module to report on it rather than the BCM.
