Can Google maps navigation be improved?

Featured Replies

When driving my St Line, I use Google maps via Android Auto, my Samsung 5g phone and a USB lead.

I find Google maps really slow to navigate. Waze is no better.  Sometimes you miss a turn.

What do you use to navigate in your car please?

I always use Waze via Android Auto and an old(ish) Motorola (G8) phone. I don't have any problems with missing directions on the map, although occasionally it's slightly slow with voice directions. I don't know if it's the app or the voice chosen.

If you have problems I don't think there is any way of speeding them up.

I use Google maps all the time with android auto phone attached using the usb port, not really noticed it being slow, but have seen other apps that tell you to turn left a few seconds after you passed that turn.

I know you can download chosen areas from Google maps so you aren't then relying on data streaming over the cellular network.

I wonder if your problem could be a data speed problem, maybe could try downloading a small map selection of your usual area and see how it works, or maybe different usb cable

Thank you

Waze is the one to go for IMO. Shows me where the speed cameras are and cops hiding. Purely because theres a large amount of people using it. GM was ok but Waze if better. Try them both, you never know.

I use a standalone Garmin 2597, launched in 2013, with free lifetime maps which I update every 6 months or so. Never got me lost yet, with full live traffic updates, voice recognition, even acts as my reverse camera, and fondly known as 'Ruby'. Of course, you young'uns would be horrified if your SatNav wasn't an 'app' of some sort LOL

However, it was very expensive, £40 used...
