Ford wishbone ball joint failure after a year!

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has experienced ball joint failure (due to split ball joint boots) on genuine Ford wishbones after a year please?

I changed both sides on my friends 2014 Fiesta last January and just replaced the off side one again (with a non Ford part this time) due to the ball joint knocking, most likely from water/dirt entering from a split boot. I also noticed the boot has gone on the near side too while I was changing the disc/pads, so will be getting another arm soon. Seems way too soon for the boots to fail, bad batch from Ford? I also noticed that there is no heat shield to protect the ball joint boot from the brake disc, I'm guessing it shouldn't be a problem as I can't find one on the parts diagrams.

Thanks.

Originally I changed the ball joints only..they lasted about a year

I then changed the complete lower wishbone with ball joint already fitted...this has lasted 18 months with no knocking atall.

I did install a different way from last though..this time I jacked up the wish bone to the same height it would be while at rest when the car was on the floor before I did the bolts up rathe than doing up while its in its fully down position
