Hey!

I just picked up a fiesta -09 1.6l

And it's difficult to get third gear to go in place. Mostly when I want to up shift. When I have to try a couple times for it to go in third gear. I should mention this is only during drive, when stationary all pop in with no issues

What could be the cause?

Clutch drag?

Probably needs a new clutch master cylinder, or slave cylinder or finally it might just need a new clutch.

How would that affect just one gear?

If it's only 3rd gear then it's likely to be a knackered sychro on that gear.  No easy fix, either put up with it or have the gearbox reconditioned.
