Errors and no airbag illuminated

Featured Replies

Hi, this is my first post and hoping someone can help.

Recently bought a 2011 smax with low miles, drives really well in all fairness.

now for the not so good bits, the person I purchased the car off didn’t tell me it was a cat car so it’s had a front end hit, so realising why the airbag light was not illuminating, plugged my machine into the obd port these are what’s coming up.

RCM (Restraint Control Module)

System Scanning Result:

Abnormal 2

B1206:68-AF Crash Occurred

U3003:16-28 Battery Voltage
so this tells me crash data is stored.
airbags I assume is fine not 100%?

so tonight I done a cluster test, to check the cluster lights to find a few are missing picture attached

it would appear that someone has disconnected something to hide the fact these lights are on? Any ideas?

DTC CODES during test -

DTC #01 C15100

DTC #02 C42268

DTC #03 C41668

You need to remove the instrument cluster and open it up. The usual trick by these charlatans is to put a bit of black tape over the LED's that they don't want you to see.

I’ll have a look mate thank you, I can’t believe I didn’t notice to be honest was having a crap day :(, if something was unplugged would it hide these lights?

many thanks and cheers for a fast reply

Could a new cluster be bought and swapped over or is it easy to take apart… or do they need to be coded in.

if I do remove the cluster and see no tape hiding the issues any modules that they can unplug for these lights to not illuminate.

if I do get the lights to show, would just a clear crash data solve my issue.

many thanks

Unplugging anything to do with the SRS will always put the lights on, not off.

Swapping instrument clusters at the early stage is a bad idea and will almost certainly introduce more problems than it would solve.

If the LED's have not been covered by black tape, they will have been removed. @rd457 would most likely be able to replace the missing LED's in the IC for you.

You will need to have the crash data reset before you will finally be able to clear all the faults but I don't think that is something you will be able to do. @TomsFocus might be able to advise more on that.

Awesome that’s great, I’ll get the cluster off when I get 5mins and I’ll report back, there are a few companies that do the crash data reset but who to trust is the question.

thanks for your help and advice, always dishonest sellers these days but it is what it is. I’m pretty certain it can be repaired but without knowing what they have done to hide the fault it’s pretty difficult, if they removed or disconnected something then like you said they’ll put the light on, my case there isn’t any light😂

Thanks again

Right today’s jobs. I’ve managed to get a cable along with forscan and removed the crash data to then have a few errors.

knee airbag needs doing

passenger and drivers pretentioners

not a big deal really, still haven’t removed the cluster but I can bet they have broke or taped the airbag light up.

dont understand why considering all these won’t cost the earth to do.

madness😂
