Newbie key question

Featured Replies

I have recently bought a 2017 MkVII ST Line with only one key, its the remote key so Im hoping I can program a replacement my self. Ive seen a well know Timpsons type shop offer a key you program yourself using their device??

Would I be right in thinking this would be possible anyway by using the original key I have and their key using the turn the ignition on and off eight times, or would this new key only unlock the car remotely and not disable the built in immobiliser.

Ive looked for info on here and seen a few similar questions but not the exact answer, also anyone know of a discount code for Timpsons?

All Ford vehicles built 2013 onward can not be programmed to start the car by the user. The "turn ignition on off 8 times and do an Irish jig" was done away with.

I strongly advise that you do not use Timpsons (or similar) for two reasons. One they are more expensive (about £220) than getting a key from a Ford dealer (£198). Two they can only make a 'clone' of your existing key which is never a good idea. If you use a Ford dealer they will delete all keys from the vehicle memory and programme in your new key and also re-add your existing key. This eliminates anyone with a previous key being able to use it to start the car.

Is it just me, or has there been a plethora of 'key' questions on the forum in the last few weeks?? 😀

Well that's the key question 🤣

It's due to the way Google algorithms work.  People type 'broken Ford key' into Google, and FOC is the top link because other people have previously clicked through to threads on similar topics.  Then it's an upward spiral until everyone has a working key.

Happens with all sorts of faults which can distort the statistics, and make it appear like the percentage of wetbelt failures or flat batteries is much higher than it is in reality.

Best advice, ever👍

£309??? LOL Times are tough for poor old Ford, they have acres of fields full of unsold EVs with no income from them 🤣

You live in an expensive part of the world 🤣

I know of someone getting a new keyfob supplied and programmed from a Ford dealer near me on Monday of this week. They paid exactly £198 inc VAT (£165 + VAT). Perhaps different Ford franchises each have their own pricing policy ? 🤔

I've said before, In Belfast there's a 'key' guy that for £75 odd, will supply a fob, cut the blade, and plug in a laptop to your car to the OBD port, and properly program the fob in & delete all 'lost' keys. Yep, we also serve a decent Guinness too LOL
