Fuel gauge not showing full Ford S Max 2.2 Titanium Diesel

Featured Replies

My above car I have just brought is only showing half tank when I have put over £90 of fuel in.

Pump at the garage did keep cutting out when fuelling ?

Could this be the breather or sensor faulty ?

Either a faulty fuel sender unit in the tank, OR.. you have a super large tank which holds £180 of fuel 🤣

S-Max fuel tank is 70 litres so £90 sounds about right for a full tank pump cut-off.  (~65 litres regular diesel @ £1.40)

Some forecourt pumps don't like the EasyFuel system, so it might be worth trying another one in future.  Also need to hold the pump nozzle at the right angle.

But that's not relevant to the fuel gauge only showing half a tank.  Give it a few days driving and it might change to the correct level.  Top end of the sender might be sticky if the previous owner only ever put half a tank in.  If it doesn't change then you'll have to consider replacing the sender unit.

I take it the range is wrong as well?  Estimating for around 300 miles?  As that proves the the issue is at the sender end, rather than the gauge end.
