Focus 1.0 mk3 brake upgrade

Featured Replies

Good day.

Could the disk brakes replaced by bigger ones?

Which have the braking?

ATE, Brembo, Bosch?

Had Brembo and Bosch, i think Bosch are better.

Worth looking into possibilities of fitting ST discs and calipers though you may find you’d need to run larger wheels/spacers so the wheels clear the calipers.

Alternatively just try some higher spec pads for your existing discs if options such as Ferodo etc are available

Could bigger discs be fit (not STs)

Not without changing calipers ect, as the bigger discs will interfere with your calipers

So it needs bigger calipers?

Are there aftermarket calipers?

  • Author

Or only ford ones?

Just fit ST front brakes, you will need ST calipers and then new ST discs and pads.

You will need minimum 17" wheels

  • Author

Already there are 17" wheels.

So only Sts.

ST will be a simple bolt on and bleed conversion

The issue is that there not ant Sts here and not many St parts available. So thats why i asked if there was another option.

Larger Mondeo brakes may be same as ST

Are you on about the front or rear?

As the photos show rear

Only with bigger discs could braking be better?

Rear discs are the same size (271mm) on all models including ST so they don't need to be changed.

What size front discs do you have now?  On UK spec cars they are only 278mm for 1.0 EcoBoost Focus.  But you may already have 300mm discs on yours as specs vary in other territories.  300mm discs were fitted to 1.5 EcoBoost and 2.0 diesel over here.  ST gets 335mm front discs.

Thank you.

But with bigger discs could braking be better and safer?

I doubt you'd notice the difference as the weight of the 1.0 Ecoboost is a lot lighter than a 4 pot ST.

Mine is a lot heavier with lpg system amd tank, plus other stuff on it.

But only by changing the discs with bigger ones could make braking better amd safer?

Mine was a 1.0 Auto, much heavier and the standard discs were more than capable of stopping the car

Understood but since it has a lot more power it needs better and safer braking.

Only on massively uprated cars and only when the you're suffering from brake fade.

If you're not then I wouldn't worry

a lot more power

How much is a lot?

  • Author

At least more than 30 hp.

More than last remap (dynamometer 155hp), so perhaps around 160-165hp.

Bosch pads appeared to brake better than brembo.

I would like something better as an upgrade. Not racing, for everyday usage, but better than simple ones.
