Focus 1.0 mk3 brake upgrade

Featured Replies

I’ve run them for long time now. Pad wear is good, and generally feel similar to standard pads. They seem to be kind to the discs, don’t make groaning noises and work ok from cold.

Where you’d get most benefit out of these is if you’re doing repeated high speed stopping, they should retain their feel and performance better than OEM pads. Pretty much what you’d want in the track. Not so much benefit on the road in my opinion, can be pricey too. I’d say they’re nice to have but not crucial. Also you may find they’re only available for ST/RS calipers etc

Would it be nice for a normal useage also?

Seems they are not available for this model.

Then perhaps ATE.

Many owners suggest them and they are satisfied.

Yes, you have to warm them up, useless for road use

Have run Ferodo DS2500’s for many years and not had to do this.

Any opinion about ATE brake pads?

Hi Bol. Seems you've made a good few modifications to your car. You've had it remapped for a significant gain and had a LPG conversion too!

Brakes. Before you go to improve braking look at your tyres. The brakes that came with your car are more than good enough to stop your car. However your tyres are probably not good enough for 'your' needs which you need to explain.

I'm assuming you drive your car like you stole it. Fair enough. Before you waste time and money on BIG brakes use that time to research the best performance tyres. After all it's them that dictate grip on the road.

Mk3,5 front disc brakes are 280mm or 300mm?

Having 300mm could upgrade braking and make brake pads last a bit longer?

Anyone had or tested grooved disks on 1.0 mk3 focus?

Especially ATE's.

So what is the best street use brake pads and brake discs for this model to replace oem (no bigger brakes, mo other calipers, no other changes)?

Which brand?

Oh no, please don't ask, we just had a humongous thread on his tyres 🤣

and you're right, unless he's thinking of entering the car in the Paris Dakar, the factory brakes are just fine...
