Ecoboost cam belt change. Is it worth it?

Featured Replies

I have a 2015 ecoboost so have been told that next year it will be due to have the cam belt change.  It has 115,500 miles on the clock.

I am now hearing horror stories of the ecoboost engines seizing up, even after the belt change, so want to know if it is worth getting it done or should I get rid of the car?  I would feel bad selling it privately but the local garages I have spoken to aren't interest in it.

It would be great to hear some good stories of these cars being fine!!!

Possibly Disney could write a nice story and the "little ecoboost engine lived happily ever after" 🤔

As I often point out '10 years' is the maximum age at when the belt must be replaced. It's not a target to be reached. You would be well advised to change yours now or risk the belt snapping and your engine being scrap.

If the car is well mantained then (most possible) there will be no issues. Belt is better to be changed this year though.

Your car has given good service on its original belt for 115,000 miles. If the belt change is done correctly then I can't see any reason why the new belt should fail, subject to correct maintenance of course.

It depend on what condition the car is in and how long you plan to keep it for.

With 115,000 miles you've done very well and it's obviously been serviced correctly but I would consider getting it changed ASAP.

Go on or go to We Buy Any Car and see what they offer you based on current condition, then budget £1500-1800 for a new Cam Belt, Oil Pump belt and oil pump (I would recommend changing the pump) and see if the cost is viable.

If not, leave it at WBAC.com and buy a new car
