Nearside door mirror up/down control transposed

Featured Replies

Hello,

Just picked up a mk6 Climate 08 plate for my son. Have fixed the sticking demist button already but now need to solve an issue whereby the passenger side door mirror moves up when you press down, and down when you press up. Left and right work as they should.

The drivers side mirror moves as it should, and they both fold in and out as they should.

I've popped the glass off and the wiring harness inside the mirror seems unmolested. I've checked the wiring harness on the switch itself and that looks original and untouched also.

So I'm a bit stuck.

I think a new switch might be the way forward but I can't help but wonder how it's come to malfunction.

Thoughts?

Part number on the switch is 1S7T-17B676-AA D3LOA and it bears the Ford logo so I believe it to be genuine.

The fault is not the switch, it is the passenger side door mirror. There is a good chance it has been replaced at some point with an aftermarket one. Remove the inside trim on the door next to the mirror. It will expose a 6 or 8 way connector. Two of the wires have been transposed in the half of the connector that is connected to the mirror.

You need to use a multimeter and test the pairs of wires until you find the pair that operates the mirror up/down function. Then it's a case of removing them from the plastic connector and swapping them over. The crimp pins can be a little fiddly to eject but they do come out with care and the use of a very small screwdriver.

Alternatively you could just open up the mirror and swap the two wires on the motor for the up/down movement.

Okay, I'll revisit the sus mirror and report back.

Update: I've popped the trim off and looked at the wiring, it looks mint and undisturbed.

My money is on the switch.

More info added.

Could even be that the motor has been mounted in the mirror head upside down

In the case the left-right would be reversed also I think, plus it looks like it can only go in one way.

and my money is still on the mirror 🤣

You were right, it's not the switch.

There are 3 wires going into the mirror, it seems one is the common earth, so logically the other two must supply either +12v or -12v to make the motor spin in either direction. So I can't simply swap two wires over, I'll have to physically reverse the motor.

I think?

Swap the wires on just that one motor. You may be able to re-solder them ?

Success!

After a couple of hours I figured it out by swapping and playing around with the 3 wires going into the motor via a molex connector I now have a fully working set of mirrors (and a spare switch!)

Cheers all.
