Misfiring help

Hello all,

I have a mk6 (54 plate) with a misfire on 2 and 4 cylinders. I can feel when one cylinder stops firing as due to the increased vibration. I’ve changed coil packs, plugs. Ht leads, and o2 sensor and I’m still no further in solving the issue.

i understand that in some circumstances a faulty coil pack can cause voltage spikes back to the ecu damaging the output mosfet.

if that’s the case, swapping out the ecu is my only option. 
 

I assume I can get my existing ecu cloned to another ecu, however I’m getting to the point that spending any more on the car is now at a point where I’d rather cut my losses and scrap it.

Does anybody know how much an ecu clone would be?

 



You don't say which engine it is so I'm not sure which ECU it'll be?  

If it's a Siemens SIM210 then around £300 to clone. 

Alternatively you could buy an 'unlocked' ECU.  That's one where the immobiliser has been removed so it doesn't need coding to your car.

Or you can swap the full immobiliser set from a donor including the ECU, GEM, keyfobs and possibly clocks/ABS module (not sure if those are coded on early Mk6's).

Cheers mate for responding. Given the car's only worth £600 it looks like I'll be scrapping it.

Just before you outlay, check the condition and continuity on all the the ignition circuits and the quality of the engine earth.

Adding an additional engine earth from the cylinder head to the body can also help
