Passenger seat weight sensor impossibly sensitive.

Featured Replies

Hi all, just a quick question. My fiestas seat belt warning can be activated by just the slightest weight, including just a fingertip. Since i got the car earlier in the year ive just had a dummy belt clip in the buckle which works fine, but is always a nuisance when i forget to remove it before a passenger gets in. Just wondering what a fix might be for an otherwise normally functioning passenger sensor, other than the fact that 50g of pressure sets it off?

Its still under extended warranty and im thinking of bringing it up in april during service.

Thanks all

How do you know that without slicing the end of your finger off?😀

Joking apart, mine are pretty sensitive also - just a small document folder, about the size/weight of a magazine, can set them off.

As long as it isn't being triggered by no weight at all then I doubt Ford will be interested.  They'll just tell you that nothing else should be placed on the seat.

I'm sure it does, but it will also cause the passenger airbag to deploy in a accident.

When the passenger airbag deploys it usually destroys the dashboard unlike the drivers airbag which can easily be replaced. This could result in a fairly minor collision resulting in your car been written off, and the insurance company may be a bit funny about that.

My dog sets mine off so I plug the seat belt in and switch off the airbag.

In most cars you can disable the passenger airbag. I think it's done to prevent it going off when a rear facing child seat is fitted to that seat. I'm not sure how to do it, so R.T.F.M.
