Temperature sensor not working

Hi all looking for some advice we have a 1.5 deisel the temperature gauge in the car was showing one bar so we chaged the sencer but now its only showing 3 then drops to 2 we have had the car a few days so what should it read 4 bars? And what else can i check as the sencer has now been changed many thanks mark

    Diesels take a long time to warm up.

    But you possibly have a faulty thermostat, stuck open, causing over cooling.

    Change the thermostat
