Rattling from egine

Featured Replies

For about a week now I have had a rattling coming from my engine, no idea what it is and it continues for about 30 seconds even once the engine has been turned off.

any ideas?

Very odd that it continues after switch off.  Means it can't be part of the engine itself.

It could be the electric waterpump, though I don't think that should run constantly.  Definitely worth checking the coolant tank after switch off to see if the coolant in the tank is bubbling.

If you can try to narrow down the area of the noise a bit more that might help us.

Yes, that could be good news in a way. Guessing at other things that can run for a while after switch off - radiator fan or aircon compressor??

A bit more info would help though - mileage, service history, owned for a while or recent purchase, etc.

Not necessarily related of course, but as it's a 10+ year old ecoboost, can't help wondering if the timing belt has been done.

Radiator fan is a good shout.  I also wondered about something under the dash clicking to do with HVAC or CD player.  Really need a more precise location.
