Welt belt only or wet belt and service?

Featured Replies

My car (2014 Ecoboost) will get its welt belt etc replaced soon as it is 10 years old. However, they have also priced in the 10 year service. Due to the pandemic (which meant it could not get serviced), my servicing schedule is now later than normal, which means it was last given its annual service in December 2023. I am curious to know if I should get it services alongside the wet belt change (due in the next month or two) or just do the service again at the end of the year and get the welt belt etc only done now?

Pricing wise the price fell by about E1000 by asking different Ford dealers...

What is included in the 'normal' service?

But they have to change the oil and filter with the wet-belt change, so I'd 'service' it again in Dec 2024.

10th year service isn't anything more than oil & filter on this engine.

(Spark plugs and air filter should be every 3 years - so should have been done at 9 years)

I would definitely have an oil & filter change with the wetbelt.  But I wouldn't say you need a 'service' with it.

Thanks, I will check the with dealer if I can remove the extra service for now. Perhaps stick to the oil and filter plus wet belt.

Some also change water (liquid) pump.

The piston lube feed filter should also be cleaned.

Using my best Google translate, it seems to include the timing belt and the water pump.

I received two quotes, I asked the second more expensive one (€700-€1000) more. I asked them to confirm why it they should charge so much, they got back to me to say that in addition to the timing belt, they will also:

- replace the oil belt

- clean the oil strainer

They said this also requires some small new parts, but that the main cost arises from the extra labour as the oil pan also needs to be removed and this requires the cat convertor to be removed as well.

I'd be grateful to know if this sounds a fair price increase for the extra work?
