No.  The rain sensor is behind the rear view mirror.  That one has to be in direct contact with the screen.

Well b*ugger me! when I got our fiesta from new I asked what that dome was for, a couple of chaps shrugging their shoulders having no idea what it is, then I had a walk into the service area and asked a few in there, told me it's the sensor for the auto lights & wipers.....Told wrong then eh!!

It is a light sensor, I don't know if it uses the same one for the auto lights.

On cars with auto lights only, it can be used as a light sensor.  (Don't think that was ever an option on Mk7 Fiesta).

But on cars with auto wipers & lights, they use a rain & light sensor behind the rear view mirror.

I wonder which one Sync 3 & 4 uses to switch to night mode on later models. 🤔

Does Sync 1 & 2 adapt brightness too?

As auto lights are now mandatory, but auto wipers aren't, I'd guess it probably does use the dash sensor for that.

During the change to night time I'm sure I have had Auto lights on but not Night mode Maps for a period of time and vice versa without it being raining at the time.
