New key cut, immobilizer tripping.

Featured Replies

I recently bought a new fob shell for my Fiesta Mk7 TDCi and transferred the chip/battery from my old key to the new one. Buttons work as expected in the new fob. Went to get my key replicated at my local locksmiths and did a good job of it.

But when starting the car red immobilizer LED is rapidly flashing and car wont crank.

Old key works fine. Is this a problem with the cut?

It sounds like you swapped the PCB but not the chip.  If the old key still works, the old chip is still in it.

Yes! I just tried to start the car with the old assembly removed and just the old key and wouldn't start. The old shell is completely empty so perhaps the chip is embedded into the casing? Any ideas ideas where I could find it?

It's a tiny black plastic rectangle right at the bottom of the casing, just above the blade.

Looks something like this:

Yeah, it was glued into the plastic casing. Was a pain to get out but eventually did with some patience.

Put it in the new shell close to the key and violà, works perfectly.

Really appreciate the help and guided pictures TomFocus. You went above and beyond mate 👍
