Brake Lights not Working

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I need some help again please!
I have a 2003 Fiesta, 1.4 petrol, black edition and have a few problems.
Firstly, my boot (intermittently) doesn’t open unless engine is off. This is using the button by the wheel, if I turn engine off, it works.

Next, my reverse light doesn’t always come on as expected. Sometimes it’s fine, sometimes it works only if you stop suddenly, others not at all.

Most recently, my taillights are staying as taillights (even when on brakes). However, unlike other people’s common problems, the taillights turn off when I turn them off. The top taillight works fine.

I’ve also noticed a ticking from fuse box when ignition is on, the ticking stays when I turn the ignition off and only stops when I turn the interior light off. I’ve tested ignition with no interior light on, the ticking appears. When I turn ignition off it continues, if I turn interior light on, wait a few seconds and turn off, the ticking stops…. It is really hard to explain🫣 so hole you get what I mean🤞

the problems may not be related, but are all electrical so thought all may be needed?

Thanks in advanced, apologies for long post.

It's a safety feature, the dashboard tailgate release button is not supposed to work if the engine is running. It stops you opening the boot while traveling at 100mph down the M1 🤣

The tailgate release should work with the engine running while stationary (manual says the GEM disables the button after 6KPH).
I had a few odd electrical issues, Tachometer delay on initial startup and headlamp adjustment motors buzzing.
Although the car always started without issue, replacing the 10 year old battery fixed the problems.

Unofix, I wish my car was capable of 100😂😂

a few people have said the same but I’ve also read that this only applies to certain models. My previous 03 fiesta allowed boot to be opened with engine running, provided below a set speed as stated above.
This Fiesta does now, it did, then it stops, then it works again🤷🏻‍♂️😂

Thanks Dan, it does have a new battery… I believe it’s got something to do with water.

Whenever there was driving rain I noticed it, which is annoying as I’m a delivery driver so constantly opening my boot.

I then put a spoiler on it for the added downforce, it rained and then stopped working again.

the brake lights turned out to just be bulbs, surprisingly, both went at same time and both worked as tail-lights, so assumed something serious was wrong.

Please note, the added downforce is great but does stop my car getting near 100mph (nothing to do with the fact it’s a 21 Y/O car that’s got no history)😂
