Intermittent engine fault, code P2290

Featured Replies

Hi all, 2009 fiesta mk6 here, after about half an hour of driving I get an engine fault light appear on the dash and the car goes into limp mode, after restarting the engine the fault clears itself. Upon checking with a laptop obd reader while the car was still on and had the light I found fault P2290: Injector Control Pressure Sensor Circuit, too low. I have changed the fuel filter and the fault is still occuring, what else should i look at changing?

The engine is a diesel 1.6L TDCI.

Check the fuel pressure sensors, low and high, but it could be a sticking EGR valve

Would the EGR valve throw up another fault code or will it only do that if it gets worse?

A 2009 Fiesta would be a Mk7 here in the UK. The last fiesta in the UK was the MK8.5

Ah! My bad, thank you for the correction

Looks like a wiring fault to the rail pressure sensor.  Definitely worth checking it's plugged in firmly with no visible damage or corrosion on the plug pins.  You could try replacing the rail pressure sensor if you don't have any means of testing the wiring yourself.

Edit: Is it definitely P2290?  As the 'circuit' fault in your reference should be P2285?

If it is P2290 then it's usually a fuelling fault instead of a wiring issue so ignore this post lol.

Not gonna have a chance to look over it again till after the weekend but, it shows on Delphi software as "P2290: Injector Control Pressure Sensor Circuit!" then "too low" then "no symptoms" then "intermittent".

Even after clearing the code, it comes up again within 30 minutes of driving, it does go into a sort of "limp mode" but after replacing the fuel filter it does not feel as though it loses too much power, it has enough to keep up with acceleration on the motorway.

Nothing seems off with the live sensor data when revving the engine.

Ah, generic OBD isn't ideal.  You might find there are some more useful Ford codes hidden if you use Forscan.
