Hard shifting 1st and 2nd gear once car is warmed up

Featured Replies

Hi,

I own a 16 plate Fiesta Eco boost. Once car has warmed up and driven around for about 30 mins or so, I struggle to shift from 1st into 2nd gear. Takes a few or so seconds to get it into gear and then seems completely fine afterwards. The issue is very intermittent. First time this happened was boxing day last year, then didn't happen again until exactly a month later. The issue happens say once or twice a week, only drive the car 4/5 days each week. Sometimes it doesn't happen even after a long journey.

It was suggested that it could be the gear linkage mechanism on the outside of the gearbox. The Pivot point swells when car is hot causing sticky gears. But only happens with 1st and 2nd not with all the gears. Which from research, seems like it was a issue years ago.

Then it was suggested that it could be the syncro that is starting to wear. If it was, I would expect it to happen all the time regardless if car is warm. Plus it doesn't make any crunching/grinding sounds.

Any ideas.
