Cost of Focus 1.0 Ecoboost wet belt replacement

Featured Replies

First time poster - and very little car mechanics knowledge - please be gentle...

I'm looking at a 2017 Focus 1.0 ecoboost with a wet belt.  I know there are issues with this engine, but told that the wet belt has been replaced and I have been given the receipt.  Thing is, the receipt is for under £450 but looking online it's more like £900+.  Does this sound right?  I'm going to call the garage that did it tomorrow, but thought I'd like a view on it if possible.

Used this garage (thanks) and they charged half the price of the Ford dealership. So far so good. The belt was in good condition despite being 10 years old. Apparently the oil was clean which clearly

Does the receipt itemise what was done and parts used?

Belt   £129

Oil filter  £11

Engine oil £40

Labour £250

Garage is in the East Midlands

Labour sounds way to cheap. Cam belt change is around 8 hrs . £250 is very cheap labour. The oil pump should be changed at the same time.

It's definatly  an ecoboost?

Yes - seen the receipt with the licence number.  It looks like a back street business.

Ford charge between £1500 and £1800.

Many thanks - I'll call the garage tomorrow to see exactly what they did.

Seems to me the garage don't know what they're talking about or more likely taking the almighty Pi$$ with you because they've sussed you have very little mechanical knowledge.

How long has the car been up for sale? How many miles on it? Have you done one of those online vehicle checks like Car Vertical? I suggest you spend money on a check before you hand Any money over.

I've noticed there are people on EBay now doing the job - the cheapest I've spotted so far was £680.

Very handy to note, only 12 miles from me.

Yes, never thought of looking on EBay for that sort of thing tbh and spotted that (and others) by chance.  Always regarded it as a place to buy/sell items rather than services.

Just so you are aware. I’ve had a quote from the main Ford dealer in Norwich today and that a belt change will now cost £1900. I’ve since found a local specialist who will do the same for £980

Thank you have done

Sorry I didn’t see the replies on this page but I did get your private message. I’ve replied but I’ll post on here again.

Thurton Auto Centre on the A146. It’s the road from Norwich to Beccles. They use Ford parts and it takes around two days. They are wet belt specialists. Hope this helps 👍🏼

Tbh I'm changing mine within month ( 1.0 L Fiesta titanium, automatic jap import)

Local Ford garage quoted me. e1850 minimum.

3 others refused point blank to even consider doing the work,

Eventually I got a Ford mechanic to agree to do it for e850

,tbh I've only got the car recently and am afraid of it going before I can replace it as my Ford man can't do it for another month.

£850 seems a decent price. TBH, I'm not sure I would have bought the car just to worry about it.

It is one of those things. may go tomorrow, next year or surprise you.

I told the Wife she needs a belt. The KA, not her. That was over a year ago . . .

Found this page through Google, still with the same issue. Thurton Auto Centre were less than half the official Ford cost. Now just need to get the car over there. So in 2024 the recommendation stands.

I got ridiculous quotes from local Ford dealership's here in Cork city, ranging from e1,850 before vat etc to a local Ford mechanic working from home,

He originally quoted me e800

That's gone up to around e1200, including w pump,  just rang him😞

Tbh I'm just glad it's getting done this Friday,

Actually 3 garage's point blank refused to even consider taking it on.

Thank you.

That's taking the P. According to other threads on the forum you could get a brand-new engine supplied and fitted by Pumaspeed for less than that.

I've just Googled it for you and found these guys in Edinburgh quoting £815 plus vat....

Hi Mark,

Well, I think you've easily taken the record for highest wet belt replacement quote!

Was that a Ford dealer? Are there others you could try for a quote? Highest range we've seen so far is about £1800-2000, some independents £1000-1200.

Hopefully some of our members might have local suggestions, otherwise it's on to your favourite search engine.

Some people have actually taken a short holiday break and had them done elsewhere in the country if they can't find a decent quote nearby!
