ford fiesta zetec turbo engine swap.Charging system servicen

Featured Replies

Hi everyone I have a ford fiesta zetec 1.0 turbo 2018. I bought a ford fiesta 1.0 ecoboost engine that came from an automatic car. The engine code isn't the same but the relevant work was done so that everything was converted so that engine could function in the manual ford fiesta zetec turbo car. The car starts and drives everything works apart from when I start the car 30 seconds later the battery light comes on and a message saying charging system service now. Iv tried everything but it keeps coming bk. I plugged it in and it has a few things come up.

1. Lost communication with ecm/pcm A

2. Lost communication with power steering control module  A

3.  Invalid data received from ecm/pcm A

4. Lost communication with generator A control module

5. Lost communication with bcm

I was hoping someone could help. Thank you for your time.

The engine 1.0 Ecoboost from an automatic is not the same as an engine from a manual.

Have you used a multimeter to measure the voltage at the battery terminals when the engine is running ?

Thank you for your reply, I'm not an expert when it comes to all of this. I haven't used the multimeter yet. Could you tell me exactly what i need to do when measuring the voltage and specifications or any steps to take to eliminate any issues/faults please. I spoke to someone and they said because it's not the same engine code there will be issues. The car runs and drives fine apart from the battery light turns on and says charging system service now. Would the bcm software need to be reprogrammed.

I appreciate any help or advice. Thank you

All modules like the PCM, BCM, would normally be transferred for the vehicle the engine came from. In your case you have created a Frankenstein engine/body combination. The engine would have originally have been coupled with an automatic gearbox that would have had a TCM. Now because you have a manual gearbox you won't have a TCM so it's a bit of a guess as to which of the PCM's will be the best match, if either.

I think you are going to need the help of a good auto-electrician, this is not something that a DIY owner is going to be able to easily sort out.

The only physical difference is the auto engine has a balancer shaft, whereas the manual has an unbalanced flywheel. So balance the flywheel🤪

Other than that, it should be ok, so perhaps you have a poorly fitted connector or a damaged wire somewhere.

Have you used the complete engine harness from your original engine, not the auto engine?

If you haven't, fit your original, manual engine harness.

Check the throttle body is the same spec as the original too, if not, put your manual throttle body back on

Auto doesn't have a TCM

Thank you for your reply. The original harness from the manual was connected to the auto engine. The flywheel was changed over so that it can function as a manual.  Ill check later if the throttle body was changed over.  I'll ask the person who fit it .  I'm wandering If i have to update the bcm software .

No.

Just remember you have a balancer shaft in your replacement engine to balance the engine PLUS you now have an unbalanced flywheel to balance an unbalanced engine, which is now balanced due to the balancer shaft.

I would get the flywheel balanced

OK thank you.  Everything runs and drives fine just only thing that comes up is the battery service comes up. With the red battery light that comes on with the message charging system service now. I'm wandering if there's any other way to resolve this situation.

Is the BMS connected ?
