Damp, Ignition & Alarm Problem

Featured Replies

This year … Started with damp problem and inside car was getting very wet.  Got garage to replace  rear light seals. Damp solved. Then ignition problem got worse as in it wouldn’t go to the final ‘click’ and turn over.  Sensor in ignition problem diagnosed and was fixed.  Then alarm stated going off randomly 🙁.  Boot open on dash came up a couple of times too. Garage says body control module needs replacing (£650 + vat & labour) due to the previous damp getting to it and maybe it is time to get rid of car.  Question is, do I say goodbye to my beloved Fiesta or is there something else I could try?

So the only current problem is the Alarm sometimes going off ????

Previous problems have all been sorted now is that right ?

If it is the alarm that is the problem, and you are randomly getting a warning that the tailgate is open on the dash then that can be fixed cheaply and easily by replacing the tailgate latch assembly (two bolts and one plug).

You could source a perfectly good 2nd hand BCM (or GEM) of exactly the same spec and have it programmed to your car

The alarm goes off regularly.  Only sometimes showing boot open symbol.  Other problems were fixed, but garage thinks theses have caused current problem.

Even the radio started playing randomly, it was Simply Red, Something Got Me Started, which we found quite appropriate 🤣

I would prefer to keep the car as she has done me well over the years. So will suggest the tailgate latch assembly and then 2nd hand BCM.

Do the tailgate latch yourself - it is very easy.  I had to replace mine as the electrics in it simply failed.   2nd hand for 15 GBP off ebay including p&p.

And are you sure the water isn't still getting in at the back?

I haven’t had to wipe the windows since the tail lights were resealed and the rear passenger carpet was reasonably dry, so don’t think water is still getting in.

Lift the boot carpet - look under the spare wheel.

Re the latch - I bought a later one and it works perfectly.  I have an early mk7 2009 1.6 three door, and this was what I bought:

Ford Fiesta Mk7.5 12-18 Tailgate Lock Latch 8A61A442A66BE 1.25 5Door

Where would I start looking to source one?  Just in case the boot lock latch doesn’t cure it?

The first thing you are going to have to do is fully remove the GEM so that you can get the exact part number of your unit. There are many different versions and they are not interchangeable.

Using the full part number you can search eBay and vehicle scrap yards. The very last letter of the GEM can be the same or higher than your own. For example if yours ends with a 'D' then you can use an 'E' or 'F'

Many thanks
