no fuel coming out of filter

Featured Replies

any advise on why I have no fuel coming out of the fuel filter

Are you using a primer pump..

Sure you won't get any out without priming it to get all the air out first

17 pound on fleabay

Yeah tried priming but still not firing up

Hi,  not enough info!  Have you now primed it OK, (and getting fuel through).. but not firing up?     Or....

Have you tried priming it but NOT getting fuel through?

What is background to this issue..... have you just renewed the fuel filter for whatever reason (service maybe)

Whatever you do DO NOT try feeding unfiltered diesel into the fuel pump! You'll end up with contaminated/blocked injectors.

Does the pump bring the fuel up..

Is the pump inline.. so to pull from the tank and push to the injectors..

If inline..Does the pump become solid

If you have any easy start and it starts then you no it's a fuel problem

hi Danny the pump in the tank isnt working not getting fuel upto the filter

There is no pump in the tank on the 1.6tdci. the high pressure pump in effect is sucking the fuel up and then compressing to high pressure.

your wrong Ian, I've taken it out today and tested it. collecting a new one from ford coming Saturday

That's odd then as stage 5 1.6 didn't use a pump. There will in essence be a pump as it's the same sender unit as other engines but it wasnt wired up as in this ford wiring diagram. You will see the note at the top of the violet/green wire ' not used. '

The early 1.5 stage 5 was the same. Only when the stage 6 came out was the pump wired up to the fuel pump driver module .

Always happy to be proved wrong as I don't know it all.

I was led to believe there wasn't a pump aswell..I certainly don't have an inspection cover under my rear seat.

To get to my sender unit I will have to drop my tank.

On top of your fuel filter is a wired plug...does that not open the valve to allow fuel through

That isn't a standard inspection cover, someone's cut a hole in the chassis specifically to check it.

As Ian says, there is a pump in the sender unit, but it's not usually powered on the 1.6 TDCI.  2014 is late for a 1.6 TDCI though, just on the cusp of the 1.5 replacing it.

I thought all 1.5 TDCI used a pump but that may not be the case...I haven't manually checked every one.

There were a few 1.5 stage 5 so the pump wouldn't have been utilised. The wiring at the pump end will be there but when you get the other side of connector c211 there will in all likely be no wiring. Easy way is to Find an operating fuel pump relay in the fusebox. That's where I would have started before hacking a hole.
