Ignition and boot opening

Featured Replies

The button on my boot no longer works so have to use the button on the key fob. The last couple of times I have put the key in the ignition to start the car, the boot has opened. Any ideas what might be happening? I have made sure I’m not accidentally  pressing it on the fob. The boot doesn’t open if I put the key in, turn it the car being on position and then to the engine being on. Really odd! Any advice on why this is happening would be appreciated!

Can't believe nobody has answered the question with 70+views.

The boot switch is just a solenoid from memory..2 wire I think.

solenoids are either open or closed and power to it will make it do the opposite (not telling you how to suck eggs)

So it either has an intermittent fault or is getting a power spike from a module

Easy to change or examine..inner boot cover off and would imagine 2 or 3 bolts to remove.

I would unplug and check for corrosion first and check power signals from the switch

Perhaps because a quick search of the forum would show this question has been asked numerous times and in nearly all cases replacing the boot handle/switch assembly fixes the problem.

I'm not sure the forum view count works tbh.  Always seems to be way more views than I'd expect.

No exactly what you mean..a Citroen forum I go on had 11 answers but no views

Amazing enough I have just had the same fault..and yes it was the boot switch..

To remove is easy..just clips in and out..a small thin flat blade and flick it out at each end.

A 2 wire plug and that's it

I managed to repair mine

6 small philips screws and it's apart.

Mine was full of gundge and water.

2 little springs on plastic posts

Plastic dome shape plastic thing and small switch with 2 soldered wires..I caught mine early and had no corrosion atall.

I washed with washing up liquid and a tooth brush..dried with a hair dryer..lightly sprayed with wd40.

The water was getting past the rubber gasket seal so put a fine bead of mastic around

Replaced all and tested..works fine..or by an after market one from fleebay for less than £10 delivered

Same happens to the Focus handle, you'd think a huge conglomerate like Ford could design better 😂

Ford are rather quite proud of the design. Sales of replacement handles has exceeded all expectations 🤣

I had rusty rubber aswell..must be contagious
