Suggestions on repairing a damage, thanks

Featured Replies

Dear All,

Today my neighbour slightly hit the front side of my car (my car was properly parked on the street) when she tried to park. She knocked my door to tell me the damage (the damaged area was red circled as shown below, a same cover was knocked out). We both agreed for me to bring the car to a garage to reapir the damage and she will pay for the expense.

I would like to ask if I can buy a car paint to paint the area where the painting was gone by the hit, so I do not need to go to the garage. Any comments/suggestions are highly appreciated.

Thanks.

I need the car at the moment and it usually takes some time for the garage.

I understand the garage may take sometime to do the repair, but why are you in a hurry to paint the plastic bumper, it's not going to rust. If you want the bodyshop to attempt to repair the bumper rather than replace it then you are just going to give them extra work to do.

Paint can be bought from: https://chipex.co.uk/

Short answer is no.  DIY paint jobs always look awful, especially if it's your first attempt.

However, it's a plastic bumper so it won't rust.  You may find that some of that is just paint transfer, so a quick wash will make it look better.  After that I'd just leave it.

Silver Fusions used to be very common, so you may find a matching bumper for sale used online, which is much less hassle than sending the car away for paint.

Well, if you can identify the correct paint colour you can get touch up paint/aerosol sprays from most motor accessory outlets e.g. Halfords, or online, as Unofix has suggested.

But as Unofix has already said, why bother as there appears to be no broken paint on the metalwork and it may complicate the repair.

By the look of that, it won't be easy/cheap to do properly, so let's hope your neighbour is sure they want to pay rather than go via insurance.

I thought it was metal surface rather than plastic as red circled below. The damage of the plastic bumper is fine since it does not rust. I worried about the damaged metal surface. Sorry. I did  not make is clear.

Many thanks for suggesting the paint.

That's all plastic.  It's only the wing that's made of metal, and the paint doesn't appear broken on that.

You will also need to replace the fog light or fit a blanking plate.  That open hole has the potential to cause pedestrians harm which an over zealous police officer could pull you for.

Thanks for the confirmation that all the circled area are plastic - TomsFocus.

Thanks for reminding the open hole. I found the knocked out blanking plate under the car and refit to open hole (reasonably stong attached) and inside the open hole there is no light bulbs.
