2019 Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost Starter motor not engaging?

Featured Replies

Hi all, Any help for a newbie would be much appreciated 😉

My Fiesta Ecoboost gave me a message "Service charging system" then a few days later the Battery died. Fitted new stop - start Excide and scanned no faults found, this week battery light and message back, then no action from starter motor, scanned again, "Starter circuit failure", tested starter terminals = 12v on main but, .75v on exciter on start demand, tested all passenger side fuses under dash all good, no faults found on wiring. Detached cables from motor and jumped, No action, Pulled motor tested dead as a door nail! Fitted new and erased code, still no start action, still only 0.75v at exciter terminal on start demand, even tried to bump start but, on my own on level road legs gave out before it would fire up 😞

I'm going to assume that either you are not in the UK (Hertfordshire) or that you are, but you are not English. I could of course be completely wrong 🤔

The Starter Motor with combined Starter Solenoid only has two terminals. The actual metal body of the assembly is the negative. When testing it you need to have the metal body connected to battery negative and the battery positive connected to the very large terminal on the starter solenoid. Then connecting a second positive supply to the much smaller terminal on the solenoid will cause it to operate moving the shaft of the motor forward and the Starter Motor to turn. Perhaps this is what you are already doing but I just didn't fully understand your explanation.

Thanks Unofix, I am English and here in the UK 🙂 My car needed the new battery and starter motor but, when I push the starter button all I see is that it multi - flashes green with no action from the starter motor and my code reader shows "Starter system fault" which I erase and when trying again its the same ?

I finally tracked down the rodent damage to the engine wiring loom, remade the chewed through wires and normal service restored 😉 Why do they attack and chew wiring, have they no taste buds 😞

Do you use scented screen wash?

My dad had issues with mice being attracted to some berry scented stuff.

We only use the unscented blue stuff now.
