Mk3 granada won't start

Featured Replies

I have a 1990 Mk3 Granada 2.0 dohc auto. The other day when driving it cut out and wouldn't restart. I got it home and checked all fuses, now the ign warning lights are not comming on. I am hearing everything from faulty ignition module to the inertia switch (which I cant find, thought it was supposed to be under spare wheel, any suggestions) the engine is turning over but there is no kick. Has anyone experienced this and if so, did you get it sorted. Thanks

Is this EFI?  Sounds like the pump in the fuel tank has failed if so.

My 1988 2.0 Granada had an external pump close to the tank if I remember correctly .

dont know if and where the cut off could be, sometimes at the bottom of the A pillar.

waggle test of all the connectors on the engine used to be the first ‘port of call’ on efi engines

Thanks for the advice, managed to get it running, turned out the rotor arm moved out and was not spinning in sync with camshaft so that is problem 1 sorted. I dont have any ignition lights, speedo or rev counter and she is not charging. Does anyone know if their is a fuse, module or relay that controls the clocks and warning lights. I would guess the reason it isn't charging is because the charging light in the dashboard is not working. Thanks

There will be at least one fuse.  Online owners manuals don't go back to 1990.  If you got a manual with the car, there should be a fuse chart in there.  Ford's often have fuse symbols on the fusebox cover as well.

Might be worth checking the plug hasn't come loose in the back of the clocks.

Thanks for the reply, I managed to get my hands on a manual and I located the fuse. It wasn't blown but I removed it and cleaned the contacts, replaced it, now everything works. Now I can go back driving around in 1990s comfort. Thanks again for the advice.

Hi, my Granada is now driving and pulling as it should but I have noticed when it warms up it is a bit lumpy. When it is idling you can hear it and see the engine jumping. Even if you hold it at say, 1500 rpm you can hear it, also if you are driving and take your foot off the accelerator the engine will go to idle and sometimes cut out. I have changed the tps, the idle control valve and the map sensor and checked all hoses and nothing has changed. Has anyone any ideas? Thanks

What type of ignition system do these use?

Lumpy when warm is often caused by a faulty coil pack on newer cars.

Just a quick thought, you are still running E5 and not the standard E10 are you ?

E10 would almost certainly give you an issue.

hi guys, thanks for replying, it is the 2.0 dohc with the single coil going to the distributor cap at the end of the camshaft. Funny was thinking about fuel. I have been putting 99 octane unleaded into it. There is only one petrol station around here that sells it, all the rest are e10.
