Fiesta ST180 2015 rear wiper issues

Featured Replies

Hi all

i’m hoping you can impart some wisdom relating to an issue, it’s long winded so bear with me:

first the washers stopped working, wipers were working fine.

after checking all of the fuses and replacing them ‘just in case’ the issue persisted.

purchased a new washer pump and when plugged in it appeared faulty because using windshield washer would also activate the rear washer, but when using rear, only the rear worked.

replaced again and the same fault was displayed.

replaced with an old motor from a breaking car and everything appeared fine for a few hours.

next morning, wipers not working, washers not working and when selecting reverse gear the park pilot displayed a malfunction.

now I should probably add that the car had an aftermarket reversing camera when purchased and this has been removed, but the screen still tries to engage and I get a black screen when reversing but the park pilot worked fine. Until the washers and wipers stopped working.

an OBD test shows a short circuit with the wipers (possibly cause says wiper motor)

There is no clicking sound when trying to operate the wipers and when trying to operate the rear wiper, the interior light dims.

please help!

This sounds like the very common problem of water ingress to the Body Control Module (BCM).

It controls: Wipers, lights, screenwash, horn, interior lights, the cigar lighter sockets, hazard warning lights, etc. etc. The BCM is a mini computer and is the rear section of the passenger compartment fusebox. The problems with water ingress and/or corrosion of the circuit board and connectors is common on many vehicles.

Thanks for commenting, do you know what the fix would be? Can it be aired out would I need to replace it?
Thanks

They usually need to be replaced and the connectors/plugs cleaned with switch contact cleaner.

You will need the EXACT same part number as yours although the very last letter of the code can be the same or higher than your part. For example AB123 45678 BC could also be replaced by AB123 45678 BD

The BCM is as I say a mini computer and once you have a replacement it will need to be programmed with your cars "AsBuilt" data using the programme FORScan.
