Steering question

Featured Replies

Hi all,

my son has a 2007 fiesta which has just failed the MOT, one of the failures was a power steering malfunction, I have checked the fluid and it is black so needs changing.

my question relates to the estimate they sent him which doesn’t mention how they would fix the power steering malfunction, so I gave them a call and they stated they would need to run diagnostics on it to determine where the fault lies, I was under the impression this car has no electronic components relating to the steering system other than a pressure sensor to increase idle at low speeds, can someone please confirm this fact?

regards

scott

If it's a 1.6 TDCI, it uses an electro-hydraulic PAS pump.

All other engines use a conventional hydraulic pump.

It’s a 1.25 petrol, so no diagnostics information available from the ECU, thanks for the reply .

Change the fluid and bleed properly and see if it works better

Having now flushed the system twice, the power steering is still not right although the car did pass the MOT with an advisory on the power steering this week.

I believe the rack is fine as with the wheels off the ground and engine switched off it’s smooth, I’m thinking power steering pump, its at the back of the engine and access looks tight, anyone done it?
