Thermostat housing Fiesta 2011 1.6 Duratorq 95ps

Featured Replies

Hi all!

How common is it for the Thermostat housing itself to fail, versus the gasket on the engine side?

My folks car has had a "Thermostat housing" leak for a couple of years. I topped it up the middle of last year, and it's only just above the min line, so it's not a drastic leak by any means. The garage they went to is pricing the job up at £150 but only if it's done with them also doing the cam belt. There isn't any obvious leak around the top, or the green stubby thing that's held in with a clip, but I can't see underneath with the battery and everything in situ... quite how they've noticed I don't know.

I notice that Ford offer free returns on parts bought from them, the housing (with gasket) is £70 and the gasket itself is £5, so was tempted to just order both, and give it a good look over when it's off... after asking the local Ford dealer how much the parts are from them.

Cheers!

I would replace the whole housing Inc gasket. The plastic tends to go brittle and crack.
