2012 fiesta tdci Caliper slide kits

Featured Replies

I recently swapped the slide kits when I did my front Brembo discs and pads. The slide kit was an eBay cheapy. Now when I brake I get an awful creaking noise from the front. It's once with every wheel rotation- under braking. I suspect it's the slide kit, one of the slides has a notch with a plastic/rubber sleeve on it, (not sure what it's for) My question is - does anyone know if having g these the wrong location could cause this issue, or have any ideas? I wasn't sure if the slide with the the sleeve was meant to be top or bottom in the caliper ?

Thanks for any help.

Hi! The rubber sleeves should be on the pin that is on the trailing edge of the caliper. (So on one side it's the upper pin, on the other side it's the lower pin) Also a great big gotcha is you must NOT use mineral-based lube on that pin! You must use synthetic grease, silicon is safest, and is what Ford use else you find with mineral grease the rubber sleeve reacts with the grease and becomes tacky and swells up resulting in partially jammed calipers. If you've already used the wrong grease then best to just abandon the sleeves. I think they're there for anti vibration purposes. Here's a link to a fuller explanation about the positioning of the rubber sleeve:

Thanks for that info. Very very useful. I just used the lubricant that came with the kit- but I think I'll just order new ones.

Thanks again, it's appreciated

Just thought I'd update this - I pulled the Slides/pins, cleaned/lubbed them and then put the slide with the rubber sleeve in the trailing position and it's completely fixed the issue. I heavily greased the slides too - I felt the tiny sachet of lube you get with the new kits is just no where near enough.  I used red brake grease - hoping that's suitable.....

Cheers

It's good to get an update. I've had brake kits from both EBC and Bigg Red and you'd think they'd know better, but both included copper grease, which is right for the pads but not the slide pins.

Copper grease isn't best practice for the pads either.  Copper reacts with aluminium.  Ceramic based grease such as Cera-Tec has been recommended for pads for the past decade or so.
