Ford Dealership Servicing Enquiry (Ford Fiesta)

Featured Replies

Hi all, first post on here and would be grateful for some guidance.

I have my service due in the next month or two, my Fiesta has 77k miles.

When looking at Ford directly, my options to book a service are as follows:

  • 72k miles/8 years Scheduled Service at £430.00
  • 90k miles/10 year Scheduled Service for £260.00
  • Essential Service for £209.00

I am not sure if it's me, but the Ford website seems to be deliberately lacking information on what they actually do for that money on a car service where as a full service in a local garage is approximately £185.00.

When I spoke to a representative of my local Ford dealership the person I spoke too also did not elaborate on what was so different about the levels of service and why the prices are significantly higher other than the fact that an essential service is basically an oil and filter change (this seems a bit overpriced).

Please may anyone advise if they have any experience with the Ford Scheduled Service and what this directly entails as I cannot get answers elsewhere, and whether it's worth it or if I should get a full service at a more local, trusted garage instead.

Many thanks for your time in advance.

How have you worked out that it's due a service?  The scheduled services for this car should be every 2 years or 18k miles.  Neither of those seem to fit a 2019 model with 77k?

The short answer to this is -

8 year service - Oil & filter, pollen filter, air filter, spark plugs, brake check with wheels off.

10 year service - Oil & filter, pollen filter, brake check with wheels on.

Essential service - Oil & filter (*With pollen filter & air filter optional at extra cost)

Ford scheduled services also include free AA breakdown cover at participating dealers - you would have to check whether your local is a participating dealer.

Given that the car is now well outside of the warranty period, there is no real benefit to using a Ford dealership.  However if you do use an independent, make absolutely sure they use the correct oil and no engine flush.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your prompt reply to this topic and the information therein, much appreciated.

I had it serviced last year and the service stamp says to get it serviced again in another year, and it's coming up to that time for a routine service.

Those are just the options it gives me when I'm on their website based on vehicle data I suppose.

The oil for this I believe is 5W-30, however I will check the owner's manual again to be absolutely certain.

Ok, that service stamp is incorrect (and part of the misinformation that Ford dealerships like to put out - expect a text and email as well).

You are welcome to have the car serviced whenever you like, however the scheduled services for this car are every 2 years, that is why you are only given the options above on the website.

Ideally we would need to know which service was completed last year, and how long it's been since the spark plugs were changed, to know which service would be most suitable this time.

Spark plugs & air filter should be every 4 years (or 36k).  Oil & filter every 2 years (or 18k).  Though many on here also like to have just an oil & filter change on the intermediate years in the hope of prolonging the wetbelts.

The oil is 5w30 but it also needs to meet the Ford spec exactly so as not to damage the wetbelts.

It last got serviced in June 2023 (essential service) at 70.5k miles.

Before that, it had 54k scheduled service (October 2022), 36k scheduled service (March 2022), and serviced at 18k (July 2021) - I'm not sure what method of service this was (essential or scheduled, it does not specify). All serviced by Ford direct.

Ah, I see, that explains the confusion.  The Essential Service last year has thrown the figures for the Scheduled services now.

The 2021 18k service will have been a Scheduled service, as that is a requirement for the warranty within the first 3 years.

The spark plugs & air filter will have been replaced at 36k in March 2022.  So their next recommended interval is 72k, which has obviously passed, but they won't been done in the Essential service last year.

So it is up to you now.  You can either choose to continue with a yearly Essential Service, and only replace the spark plugs if they start to get weak.  Or you can have the 8 year Scheduled service done now, which should have been done last year on mileage, and will include the spark plugs.  Or you can choose to move to independent servicing instead.

Update for clarity purposes:

The physical copy of my owner's manual for my particular model of Fiesta specifies the following oil should be used: SAE 5W-20 (WSS-M2C948-B), ideally Ford-Castrol specification exactly as TomsFocus kindly pointed out.*

Please also see a link to the online version of the owner's manual https://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/vdirsnet/OwnerManual/Home/Content?variantid=6894&languageCode=en&countryCode=USA&Uid=G1867996&ProcUid=G1868000&userMarket=GBR&div=f&vCode=WF0JXXGAHJKD23722&vFilteringEnabled=True&buildtype=web

*Whilst this is relevant specifically to my model of Fiesta, I would encourage anyone to check your owner's manual and/or consult with Ford or a garage directly if unsure as t his may differ.

Apologies for my error above.  It is definitely 5w20 for the 1.0 EcoBoost!  Surprised none of the other members picked up on that one.

We'll have to check your work more carefully in future!😀
