Tyre pressures

Featured Replies

Hi and apologies for a stupid question.

Picked up my fiesta last night and pressures are all over the place.

I notice on the door plate that it states for a normal load 36psi front and 26psi rear. That seems a heck of a difference between front and rear so I just wondered what others set theirs to please?

Cheers Chris

I've always set mine, when cold, as recommended on the door plate.

Thanks Eric and do you recall that it  was 10psi between front and back?

It differs according to which version you have and the tyres fitted - the ST is 36/28.

According to the online handbook, the 36/26 you quote is correct for a 1.0 with 205/40x18 tyres:

Up to 160 km/h (100 mph)

Tire Size   Normal Load   Full Load
Front   Rear   Front   Rear

195/60R15 88V Winter   2.1 (30) 1.8 (26) 2.8 (41) 2.8 (41)
195/60R15 88V Summer   2.3 (33) 1.8 (26) 2.8 (41) 2.8 (41)
195/60R15 92V XL All Season   2.1 (30) 1.8 (26) 2.8 (41) 2.8 (41)

195/55R16 91V XL All Season   2.1 (30) 1.8 (26) 2.3 (33) 2.6 (38)

205/45R17 88W XL All Season   2.3 (33) 1.8 (26) 2.4 (35) 2.6 (38)
205/45R17 88Y XL   2.3 (33) 1.8 (26) 2.4 (35) 2.6 (38)

205/40R18 86Y XL   2.3 (33) 1.8 (26) 2.6 (38) 2.8 (41)

The manufacturer will have researched the best tyre pressures for your car / tyre size. You should trust the data plate.

The front is higher to compensate for the weight of the powertrain

36 seems a tad high, but if that's what they recommend
