Knocking front suspension/steering

Featured Replies

Hi,

Firstly hello as new to the forum. I have a 2009 Fiesta 1.4d works van. It has recently developed a clear metallic knock / thud on the lower driver's side when accelerating or braking. It sounds like something is moving forward or backwards. I recently changed the lower control arm as the ball joint was knackered and that is all solid and fine.

The only thing I can find so far it might be is that there seems to be a lot of play in the half axle and I can make it knock easily by hand). I have videos it here

Is this normal on Fiestas as it the same on both sides ? If not is it most likely a case of changing them both out? I do need to check the engine mounts properly later today but doesn't sound like them.

Any advice appreciated as need to get back on the road asap 🙂

Cheers

on my last 3 focus's i had to change all drive shafts at some stage, only did 1 before xmas, in saying that if could be a few things, top mount on the strut, bad spring or bushing, check the gearbox mount as well but that might be more noticeable on gear change
