Satnav destination

Apologies, I could just be really thick but I cannot get the system to direct me to just a town using voice control. If I say 'navigate to Chester' it just seems to be interested in POIs! What an I missing please?

It can't be just me surely? 😃 Unless I am being really stupid!

It is not you that is stupid, it is the compiler of the SatNav software....

And by now, they should have integrated "What Three Words" into the database, as they are much smaller areas than post codes, which were designed for Postmen!

As Paul says it's not you 🙂 but if you want to navigate using voice control, wouldn't it be easier to use Google maps via Android Auto?

Thanks, I was hoping to just drive and go without plugging phone in etc. So I am correct in thinking they designed it this way, i.e. you can't ask it to navigate to just a town or city?

Can't help you there, as I'm not familiar with Ford SatNavs, only Garmin, ranging from a GPSII, Foretrex, Quest and QuestII, Nuvi55, Nuvi2529, and DriveSmart 55. IMHO, the Quests were the best, although programming on the device was difficult, but weather proof and a good battery for use out of a car.  I've always used Garmin PC software (Trip and Waypoint Manager, Mapsource and Basecamp) to plan my trips and routes, so  I go the way I want to, and I have hundreds of POIs/Favourites which I tend to use.  Never used voice control, but do have a large scale road atlas in every vehicle !  I've not tried it, but on the "DriveSmart" you can link to a mobile 'phone running Garmin Drive and use the app to set a destination - and this uses Google maps !  (Though colour scheme for Google maps is awful compared to an OS Map!)

Any idea who provides the SatNav in a modern Ford ?

First GPS I used was in the '70s and the size of a 'fridge !

It's Here, they are now owned by a consortium of car manufacturers, mostly German ones I believe.

I have had their excellent offline App on my phone for years for use when I'm up north where there is little or no phone signal. I like it visually but their Data Base  of places is poor and that is the only thing that lets it down in my opinion.

And they do update their maps more than once a year, it must be Ford that have decided not to give us all the updates.

Been a while since I've used a ford sat nav but have you tried "navigate to a city centre"..... "Chester"

Had a play with the built-in nav on my 68-plater earlier... using the voice control was only good for comedy value but using the screen to input I could ask it for a route to a town / city rather than needing a POI - not sure if later cars would be different?
