How many keys can I pair?

Featured Replies

I have just bought a Fiesta 2014 for my daughter. It came with two keys - one looks like an original type with a flip out key. The other is a fixed key with the remote buttons at the end. It is a keyed start and both keys work fine to start the engine.

One remote worked fine but the other didn’t do anything. I did the ‘switch it on and off six times, remove the key, press the button and then switch the car on and off again shuffle’ and got the second remote to work. However, the original remote then stopped working.

I expected to be able to add both remotes - but if I add one remote, the other one stops working - and vice versa. It seems either key can work as a remote but programming one seems to one disable the other.

Is this expected behaviour? Is it possible to have more than one remote on this car? Both remotes have new batteries. Is there a specific trick? I was hoping at some point to have one of these keys as a MyKey but haven’t set this up yet.

If I remember correctly after you have keyed on/off to enter programming mode you are supposed to press a button on each remote you want to program and then key the igniton on again.

From memory I seem to recall your model can have up to 7 keys programmed.

There are a few possible reasons as to why your having issues programming the car to accept another key.

  • There is already 7 keys programmed in to the vehicle and you are trying to add number 8.
  • One of the keys you have may be a clone of the other.
  • The method you are using is not correct. Once the vehicle is in programming mode you have to add both keys, one straight after the other.

Program instructions... (A maximum of 8 keys can be coded using 2 'original' keys.)

I’ll give it a try with both keys in programming mode. Thanks for the hint. I’m fairly sure there’s never been more than 2 keys for this vehicle. 👍🏻
