2010 Fiesta Coolant Cap Issue

Featured Replies

Hi

So for the second time my Fiesta coolant tank cap has separated and used majority of coolant, with the bottom part "plugging the neck of tank. I see this is a known issue.

My question is why does this happen? Its done after 40+ mile trip with some heavy traffic both times. No coolant loss otherwise, only a small level fluctuation since first time and before that no fluctuation at all.

Car will go to garage for checks, but be grateful for advice here.

Thanks all...

I don't know, but if you find the answer let Ford know because they have being asking the same question 🤣

Just noticed mine has aswell, someones drilled a hole in the bit thats stuck in the neck of the bottle so i can still top up if requierd😯,a bit risky id say as u likely end up with plastic bits floating around in the coolant.but seen a vid on utube on how to get it out using 2 screw drivers, might leave it the way it is as cant see it doing any harm

It happens because Ford fit poor quality parts.  At least they're cheap to replace.

The cap is designed to hold a certain amount of pressure in the system.  And then release any excess pressure if necessary.  One of those functions won't be able to work with a broken cap.  I'd replace it asap tbh.

Seven years ago when I got my Fiesta I read about this problem and I coated the threads of the cap with silicone grease and I have never had a problem removing the cap.

It's the o-ring that seizes in place so a smear of silicone grease on that should help.
