Advise wanted on fixing an insurance write off buy back ?

Featured Replies

My Son “rear ended” someone and the insurance wrote off My (our) 2010 Fiesta Zetec in Frozen White.

Having received the payout I’ve decided to buy it back and fix it up and put it back on the road, I’m look for any comments or advice on this process ?

Obvious parts needed are:

Bumper, Bonnet, Drivers airbag (steering wheel) and knee airbag, Passenger airbag (probably to include a new dash), Slam panel

The car is drivable and has no obvious leaks or knocks.

Looking for any advice or comments to help with the process ? Recommendations on where to get parts from ? And any possible upgrades

Many Thanks

I have rebuilt a few of these after front end impacts.  As you need several large parts, it'll be cheapest to go to a breakers yard with a few Fiestas in to collect all of the parts you need together.  Also worth noting it is illegal to send airbags through the post.

Professional paint is very expensive and difficult to DIY, so try to get panels in the correct colour if possible.

As the airbags have been deployed, you'll probably find the seatbelt pretensioner(s) need replacing as well.

Check the radiator, AC condenser and intercooler (if fitted) very carefully.  Much easier to replace those while the bumper and slam is all off than finding out they were damaged after the rebuild.

Regarding upgrades, it sounds like a brake upgrade might be useful.

I like the upgrade suggestion, it may be My Son’s Vision and Judgment that needs upgrading 🤓
